GAS - Record-high Q2 profit from strong gas prices - Earnings Flash

- GAS announced stellar H1 2022 results with revenue of VND54tn (USD2.4bn; +34.9% YoY) and net profit of VND8.5tn (USD370mn; +98.4% YoY) that were bolstered by strong output gas prices. The average fuel oil (FO) price — the benchmark for Vietnam’s gas price — surged 59.3% YoY in H1 2022. In addition, the average LPG price jumped 50.3% YoY in H1 2022. Nevertheless, H1 2022 sales volume was flat YoY. 

- In Q2 2022, GAS’s revenue increased 21.8% YoY and its NPAT-MI more than doubled YoY. Moreover, GAS’s NPAT-MI rose 48.4% QoQ in Q2 2022 mainly thanks to stronger FO prices. 

- H1 2022 gas sales volume was flat YoY as the recovery of gas sales to fertilizer producers (+17.6% YoY) and industrial parks (+5.3% YoY) offset the decline of gas sales to power plants (-4.5% YoY).
