Market wrap: VN-Index surges 1.3% to finish week
On Friday, the VN-Index surged 1.3% (+15.3 pts) to close the trading week at 1,223.6. The market’s upward trajectory was led by a variety of large-cap stocks but five of the top-ten were from the banks sector. Throughout the index, there were 329 gainers, 86 laggards, and 65 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume decreased compared to the previous trading day to USD569.4mn.
* Banks CTG (+4.3%), BID (+1.5%), MBB (+1.7%), and TCB (+1.2%) posted strong gains while VCB (+0.5%) ticked up. There were no large-cap decliners in the sector.
* The basic materials sector had a strong performance as GVR (+1.9%), DPM (+2.9%), DCM (+1.7%), and HPG (+1.8%) surged.
* Notable gaining stocks in other sectors were technology company FPT (+4.5%), retailer MWG (+5.1%), securities company SSI (+4.3%), beer maker SAB (+1.5%), and insurance company BVH (+1.6%).
* Some of the stocks weighing on the index were real estate companies VIC (-1.4%), VHM (-1.1%), and VRE (-0.9%), airline HVN (-4.5%), and utility company PGV (-2.5%).
