Market wrap: VN-Index slightly declines on Thursday

On Thursday, the VN-Index slightly declined by 0.1% (-0.8 pts) to close the trading day at 1,283.6. Today’s result broke a three-day climbing streak for the index. The real estate and consumer goods sectors had poor performances while contributing to the market’s decline. Conversely, the banks sector helped lift the market. In total, there were 200 gainers, 224 laggards, and 80 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume decreased to USD873.1mn.  

* Nine of the top ten stocks positively contributing to the index came from the banks sector. These were STB (+3.7%), TCB (+1.1%), BID (+0.5%), VCB (+0.2%), SHB (+2.6%), CTG (+0.6%), LPB (+1.4%), MBB (+0.7%), and TPB (+1.4%).  

* In real estate, VIC (-1.1%), VHM (-0.6%), and KDH (-1.5%) declined as BCM (+1.6%) surged. VRE (0.0%), NVL (0.0%), and KBC (0.0%) were unchanged.  

* In consumer goods, milk producer VNM (-1.9%), coffee producer VCF (-2.0%), fish exporter VHC (-0.95%), sugar producer SBT (-1.2%), and beer maker SAB (-0.2%) saw their share prices lose value.  

* Notable declining stocks in other sectors were airline HVN (-4.1%), rubber producer GVR (-1.0%), utility companies GAS (-0.4%) and POW (-1.5%), technology company FPT (-0.4%), and insurance company BVH (-1.6%).
