Market wrap: VN-Index sees no material change on Monday
The VN-Index recorded a marginal increase of 0.02 points on Monday to close at 1,175.7, translating to a negligible change of 0.0%. More than half of the large-cap VN30 basket of stocks posted gains (11) or were unchanged (5). The Index had 183 gainers, 283 laggards, and 106 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume increased to USD582.5mn.
* The performance of the banking sector varied. VCB (-0.9%), BID (-0.5%), and ACB (-1.3%) were three of the top five stocks weighing most on the market. Conversely, CTG (+0.6%) and MBB (+0.7%) were two of the top five stocks lifting the market. VPB (0.0%) was unchanged.
* The Vingroup stocks also had a negative effect on the market, as VIC (-0.4%), VHM (-0.5%), and VRE (-1.9%) fell. NVL (-1.2%), PDR (-1.1%), and NLG (-1.5%) also declined. BCM (+0.5%) and KBC (+0.7%) increased.
* Multiple chemical companies posted strong gains including rubber producer GVR (+4.9%) and fertilizer producers DCM (+4.1%) and DPM (+2.6%).
* GAS (+1.9%), beer maker SAB (+1.1%), jewelry retailer PNJ (+2.0%), and FRT (+3.3%) were some of the distinctive gaining stocks during the trading day. Notable decliners in the market included HPG (-1.2%), SSI (-0.4%), MSN (-0.3%), and retailer MWG (-0.7%).
