Market wrap: VN-Index sees no material change on Friday

On Friday, the VN-Index saw no material change, decreasing by only 0.02% (-0.3 pts) to close the trading day at 1,282. Financial services was the sector that put the most downward pressure on the market while technology had the most positive effect. In total, there were 185 gainers, 234 laggards, and 78 stocks were unchanged in the index. Total trading volume decreased to USD844.6mn compared to the previous trading day.  

* The financial services sector performed poorly as only one large-cap stock gained (HCM; +0.2%). Major decliners included SSI (-0.97%), VND (-2.99%), VCI (-1.03%), and FTS (-0.2%).

* In the banks sector, VCB (0.0%) and CTG (0.0%) were unchanged while BID (+1.5%), LPB (+6.5%), and SSB (+2.2%) posted strong gains. TCB (-1.2%), VPB (-0.5%), MBB (-0.2%), and ACB (-1.01%) fell.

* A selection of gaining stocks from other sectors were real estate company VIC (+0.5%), food & beverage company MSN (+0.5%), technology company FPT (+2.1%), rubber producer GVR (+1.6%), and oil & gas company PLX (+2.4%).  

* Some notable decling stocks were real estate companies VHM (-0.7%) and VRE (-1.2%), steel maker HPG (-1.02%), beer producer SAB (-0.97%), and airlines HVN (-0.9%) and VJC (-1.3%).
