Market wrap: VN-Index retreats 0.1% to close week

The VN-Index retreated 0.1% (-1.1 pts) on Friday to close the trading week at 1,285.5. The index was not particularly affected by one sector as a variety of large-cap stocks across sectors declined. Throughout the index, there were 157 gainers, 211 laggards, and 72 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume edged down compared to the previous trading day to USD611.8mn.

* In the banks sector, VCB (+0.2%), TCB (+0.4%), LPB (+0.8%), HDB (+1.5%), and STB (+2.8%) gained. CTG (-0.8%), VPB (-1.7%), MBB (-0.6%), and ACB (-0.2%) declined. BID (0.0%) was unchanged.  

* In real estate, VHM (+0.3%) and VIC (+0.6%) edged up while KDH (-1.7%) plunged. BCM (0.0%) and VRE (0.0%) were unchanged.  

* Some of the stocks most negatively impacting the index were steel maker HPG (-1.1%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-0.7%), rubber producer GVR (-0.4%), and milk producer VNM (-0.3%).  

* Airlines VJC (+1.1%) and HVN (+0.5%), utility company GAS (+0.3%), oil & gas company PLX (+0.2%), and fish exporter VHC (+0.7%) were among the market’s bright spots.
