Market wrap: VN-Index resumes trading with 0.3% increase

The VN-Index ticked up 0.3% (+3.97 pts) on Thursday as the market re-opened following the Lunar New Year. The slight gain in the index can be attributed to the strong performance of several bank stocks. Total trading volume increased to USD793.4mn. In total, there were 321 gainers, 153 laggards, and 81 stocks that were unchanged.

* Banks TCB (+2.9%), MBB (+2.8%), MSB (+6.7%), OCB (+5.3%), VPB (+1.0%), VIB (+1.8%), SHB (+2.1%), and TPB (+1.9%) were all in the top-ten stocks most positively contributing to the market. ACB (-2.9%) was the stock that weighed most heavily on the market.  

* Other notable gainers were steel maker HPG (+1.95%), beer brewer SAB (+1.0%), oil & gas company PLX (+1.6%), and real estate developers VIC (+0.4%), VHM (+0.4%), and VRE (+0.5%). 

* Some noteworthy decliners were rubber producer GVR (-1.6%), retailer MWG (-1.6%), technology firm FPT (-0.9%), and airline VJC (-0.8%).  

* Several large-cap stocks were unchanged, including bank BID (0.0%), milk producer VNM (0.0%), food & beverage player MSN (0.0%), securities firms SSI (0.0%) and VNĐ (0.0%), and GAS (0.0%).
