Market wrap: VN-Index posts loss of 0.4% to finish week

On Friday, the VN-Index posted a loss of 0.4% (-4.6 pts) to finish the week at 1,261.7. This is the third consecutive trading day that the index has declined. Banks was the sector that led the market’s downward movement. Throughout the index, there were 198 gainers, 222 laggards, and 71 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume sharply decreased to USD734.7mn.  

* Banks VCB (-1.6%), BID (-1.3%), LPB (-0.96), and VIB (-1.1%) were four of the top ten stocks contributing to the index’s decline. CTG (+0.3%), TCB (+0.4%), VPB (+0.3%), and HDB (+0.7%) gained.

* Consumer services was the sector most lifting the market. Retailers MWG (+1.3%), FRT (+3.3%), and DGW (+1.7%), and airline HVN (+0.4%) were the leaders in this sector.  

* Stocks in other sectors that posted good performances were steel maker HPG (+1.2%), real estate companies VIC (+0.9%) and NVL (+2.1%), chemical company DGC (+0.8%), and jewelry retailer PNJ (+1.1%).  

* Other noteworthy stocks that saw their share value decrease were rubber producer GVR (-2.4%), utility company GAS (-1.2%), beer maker SAB (-1.69%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-0.8%), and real estate company VHM (-0.4%).
