Market wrap: VN-Index posts gain of 0.4% to close week
The VN-Index posted a gain of 0.4% (+4.7 pts) on Friday to close the week at 1,221. Banks led the market, as five of the ten stocks contributing most to the market’s gain came from this sector. Throughout the index, there were 223 gainers, 200 laggards, and 80 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume increased to USD668.9mn.
* Banks TCB (+2.9%), VCB (+0.7%), HDB (+3.4%), ACB (+1.9%), and VPB (+0.6%) were the previously mentioned sector and market leaders. SSB (-0.2%) and VIB (-0.9%) declined while BID (0.0%) and MBB (0.0%) were unchanged.
* Consumer services was the second leading sector, led by airlines HVN (+6.9%) and VJC (+2.0%), retailer MWG (+0.2%), and aviation services company AST (+0.4%). Air cargo services company SCS (-0.8%) fell.
* Standout gainers from other sectors included real estate companies VRE (+2.9%) and KDH (+2.6%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+2.7%), steel maker HPG (+1.1%), and electrical engineering company REE (+2.7%).
* Some significant laggards were rubber producer GVR (-2.0%), technology company FPT (-1.1%), real estate company NVL (-2.3%), fish filet exporter VHC (-1.7%), and power company POW (-1.4%).
