Market wrap: VN-Index inched down on weak turnover

The VN-Index dropped slightly by 0.17% on Thursday as turnover on the HOSE reached only VND15,173bn (USD595mn). Foreign investors were still net sellers on this exchange by VND1,143 bn (USD44.8mn), with sales focused on FUEVFVND +1.1%, FPT +0.8%, TCB -2.3% and POW -3.6%.

* Insurance stocks were in the spotlight with rallies from BVH +2.8%, MIG +6.7% and BMI +1.2%.

* Large-caps in the consumer sector increased, such as MSN +0.7%, SAB +1%, MCH +2.2% and VNM +0.15%.

* Midcap names in real estate performed well, including DIG +3.4%, DXG +1.3%, KDH +1.4% and NVL +1.9%.

* The banking sector showed mixed performance with gains from HDB +1.1%, MSB +1.8% and EIB +0.6% and losses from TCB -2.3%, STB -1% and BID -0.9%.

* Oil and gas stocks dropped, including PLX -2.6%, PVS -1.2%, BSR -1.4% and OIL -3.5%.
