Market Wrap: VN-Index gains 0.7%, led by banks

The VN-Index gained 0.7% (+8.5 pts) on Tuesday to close the trading day at 1,276.9. Banks led the index, with seven of them ranking among the top-ten contributors to the market's rise. Throughout the index, there were 256 gainers, 119 laggards, and 95 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume surged compared to the previous trading day to USD727.1mn. 

* The previously mentioned banks were BID (+1.1%), MBB (+1.8%), STB (+3.4%), VIB (+3.2%), VCB (+0.3%), VPB (+1.1%), and SSB (+3.5%).  

* The real estate sector also experienced a positive trading day, as KBC (+6.8%), KDH (+1.6%), PDR (+1.6%), and VHM (+1.4%) surged and VIC (+0.5%) and VRE (+0.3%) gained.  

* Basic materials stocks performed well, with rubber producers GVR (+1.7%) and PHR (+2.0%) posting strong gains and steel maker HPG (+0.6%) and chemical companies DGC (+0.4%) and DCM (+0.4%) ticking up.  

* Other notable gaining stocks during the trading day included utility company GAS (+0.96%), tech company FPT (+0.4%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+0.5%), retailer MWG (+1.2%), and airline HVN (+0.5%).
