Market wrap: VN-Index falls 1.3% as most large-cap stocks decline
On Friday, the VN-Index fell 1.3% (-15.3 pts) to close at 1,212. Only two of the stocks in the large-cap VN30 basket posted gains and one was unchanged. The vast majority of the stocks listed on the index declined. In total, there were 414 laggards, 98 gainers, and 45 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume jumped to USD1.3bn.
* After recent strong gains, the Vingroup stocks had weak performances as follows: VIC (-5.0%), VHM (-3.4%), VRE (-3.6%). Four other stocks in the real estate sector declined by more than 3%, which were KBC (-3.6%), PDR (-3.8%), DIG (-3.2%), and NLG (-3.3%).
* The only bank to gain during the trading day was BID (+4.5%). Some of the significant laggards were VCB (-0.7%), CTG (-1.4%), VPB (-1.0%), TCB (-0.5%), and MBB (-0.2%).
* In food & beverage, conglomerate MSN (-2.1%), milk producer VNM (-0.8%), beer maker SAB (-1.7%), fruit planter HAG (-3.2%), and sugar manufacturer SBT (-2.9%) saw their share prices decrease. Consumer foods processor KDC (+0.5%) and fish exporter VHC (+0.6%) increased.
* Some select large-cap stocks that made gains were airline VJC (+0.2%), tech retailer FRT (+3.5%), construction materials comapny BMP (+5.0%), and securities firm EVF (+4.0%).
