Market wrap: VN-Index falls 1.1%, reaching three-month low
On Friday, the VN-Index fell 1.1% (-13.3 pts) to close the trading week at 1,218.6, reaching a three-month low. Large-cap stocks across sectors declined, with only two members of the VN30 group posting gains. Throughout the index, there were more than four times the number of laggards (305) as there were gainers (75), while 49 stocks were unchanged. Total trading volume surged compared to the previous trading day to USD732.6mn.
* Banks BID (-1.8%), CTG (-1.5%), TCB (-1.5%), VPB (-1.6%), MBB (-1.3%), and HDB (-2.2%) sharply declined and had a strong negative effect on the market.
* In real estate, VHM (-0.3%), VIC (-0.4%), and BCM (-0.9%) declined, while KDH (-2.1%), NVL (-3.7%), and PDR (-2.7%) plunged. VRE (+0.6%) gained and KBC (+2.4%) surged.
* Basic materials stocks HPG (-1.5%), GVR (-1.6%), DGC (-2.7%), DCM (-2.1%), and HSG (-3.7%) lost considerable value for the second consecutive day.
* Stocks from other sectors that pushed the index down included tech company FPT (-1.5%), milk producer VNM (-2.0%), retailer MWG (-2.3%), utility company GAS (-0.6%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-1.1%), and airline HVN (-2.5%).
