Market wrap: VN-Index falls 1.1%, numerous real estate & bank stocks plunge
The VN-Index fell 1.1% (-13.5 pts) on Thursday to close the trading day at 1,257.4. Numerous real estate and bank stocks plunged by more than 2%. The number of laggards (284) was more than double the number of gainers (102), while 52 stocks were unchanged. Total trading volume surged compared to the previous trading day, reaching USD625.7mn.
* In the banks sector, TCB (-2.3%), VPB (-2.2%), MBB (-2.2%), and STB (-6.7%) plunged. VCB (+0.2%) was the sole large-cap gainer.
* Real estate stocks VHM (-6.7%), VIC (-2.7%), VRE (-2.7%), and KBC (-1.7%) sharply declined. BCM (+0.3%) and KDH (+1.1%) gained.
* Other notable laggards across sectors included rubber producer GVR (-1.8%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-1.1%), retailer MWG (-0.5%), oil & gas company PLX (-1.3%), and utility companies POW (-1.2%) and PGV (-1.5%).
* Some of the noteworthy gainers in the index were milk producer VNM (+1.6%), utility company GAS (+0.1%), tech company FPT (+0.1%), jewelry retailer PNJ (+0.2%), and insurance company BVH (+0.4%).
