Market wrap: VN-Index edges up 0.2% as number of gaining, falling stocks nearly even

On Tuesday, the VN-Index edged up 0.2% (+2.1 pts) to close the trading day at 1,271.98. The number of gaining stocks (176) was nearly even with the number of laggards (179), while 79 were unchanged. Today's result ends the four-trading-day loss streak for the index. Total trading volume surged compared to the previous trading day to USD631.9mn. 

* The banking sector showed a mixed performance. LPB (+4.9%), HDB (+1.3%), and TCB (+1.0%) posted strong gains. VCB (-0.5%), BID (-0.3%), and STB (-0.3%) declined. 

* Large-cap real estate stocks VHM (+0.97%), VIC (+0.1%), BCM (+0.4%), and VRE (+0.6%) gained as KBC (-0.7%) and NVL (-0.9%) fell.  

* The financial services sector saw several stocks decline, including SSI (-0.7%), VND (-0.7%), HCM (-1.6%), and VCI (-0.8%).  

* Other top stocks helping lift the index were steel maker HPG (+2.1%), milk producer VNM (+1.6%), rubber producer GVR (+0.7%), plastics company BMP (+6.95%), and food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+0.5%).
