Market wrap: VN-Index declines on profit-taking

The VN-Index fell 0.6% as profit-taking activity increased across various sectors. The HOSE recorded 299 losers to only 151 gainers. The VN30 basket recorded 23 laggards which dragged the Index down the most. Total turnover was VND21,825bn (USD859mn).  

* Banking was the biggest contributor to the index’s loss due to declines from BID -1.3%, LPB -2.3%, CTG -0.9% and VPB -1.0%.  

* Materials turned around and was amongst the top three market laggards due to losses from GVR -2.6%, DGC -1.2%, HPG -0.2% and DPM -1.4%.  

* Technology and Consumer Services stocks continued to lose strength, including FPT -2.5%, MWG -2.4%, HVN -1.0% and FRT -1.3%.  

* Real Estate stocks traded mixed as BCM -2.1%, VIC -0.5% and NVL -1.1% dropped whilst HDG +4.6%, SIP +2.6% and KDH +1.1% gained.  

* Oil and Gas outperformed the market thanks to gains from PLX +1.2%.
