Market wrap: VN-Index declines 0.4% on Monday

The VN-Index declined 0.4% (-5.1 pts) on Monday to close the trading day at 1,274.8. Banks put the most downward pressure on the market, with five of the top ten stocks negatively affecting the index originating from the sector. Throughout the index, there were 169 gainers, 275 laggards, and 60 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume decreased compared to the previous trading day to USD899.7mn.  

* The five banks referenced above were BID (-2.1%), VCB (-0.5%), TCB (-1.02%), HDB (-1.7%), and VIB (-2.0%). VPB (+0.3%) and MBB (+0.7%) gained.  

* The real estate sector saw a mix of performances. VHM (+0.3%) and KDH (+0.1%) were the only large-cap gainers, while BCM (-1.4%), VRE (-1.4%), and NVL (-0.4%) fell. VIC (0.0%) was unchanged. * Notable large-cap decliners in other sectors were utility company GAS (-1.8%), technology company FPT (-1.7%), retailer MWG (-1.6%), oil & gas company PLX (-1.5%), and securities company SSI (-0.6%).  

* Stocks that saw gains of note included steel makers HPG (+1.2%) and HSG (+6.8%), rubber producer GVR (+1.1%), beer maker SAB (+0.3%), airline HVN (+2.6%), and retailer FRT (+0.6%).
