Market wrap: VN-Index declines 0.24% to close week on low turnover
The VN-Index declined 0.24% on Friday to close the week at 1,280.8. Buying interest continued to fade in most of the large cap stocks. Throughout the VN-Index, there were 140 gainers and 298 laggards. Total turnover plunged to VND14,795bn (USD582mn), down 20% vs the previous day.
* The Banking sector continued to be the biggest contributor to the index’s loss due to declines from VCB -0.6%, BID -0.4%, CTG -0.6% and ACB -0.6%.
* Financial Services lost its previous positive momentum with losses from SSI -1.0%, HCM -1.4%, VIX -2.0% and EVF -1.7%.
* Consumer Goods continued to perform poorly due to declines from large cap stocks, including MSN -1.3% and SAB -0.5. Meanwhile, mid cap stocks posted gains, including VHC +2.2%, HAG +1.2% and VCF +1.7%.
* Industrials had a weaker day overall with mixed trading at the stock level as PC1 -2.5%, REE -0.6% and GEX -0.9% dropped while TV2 +6.0%, GMD +0.4%, STG +4.6% and HT1 +4.4% gained.
* Real Estate continued to outperform the market thanks to gains from VIC +1.6%, BCM +0.5%, VHM +0.1% and SJS +2.2%.
* Materials turned around and was amongst the top two market leading sectors with gains from GVR +2.6%, DCM +1.5%, NKG +2.8% and DPR +1.7%.
