Market wrap: VN-Index climbs 0.8% to start week
The VN-Index climbed 0.8% (+9.4 pts) to close the trading day at 1,261.6. Banks was the sector that had the most positive effect on the market, while consumer services was the most detrimental. Throughout the index, there were 267 gainers, 152 laggards, and 68 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume decreased compared to the previous trading day to USD 672.8mn.
* VCB (+0.8%), TCB (+2.1%), BID (+0.8%), and LPB (+2.1%) were the leaders in the banks sector. HDB (-0.2%) was the only large-cap decliner.
* The consumer goods sector posted strong performances with milk producer VNM (+3.0%), jewelry retailer PNJ (+6.9%), beer maker SAB (+2.7%), and food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+0.6%) gaining.
* Consumer services stocks HVN (-1.4%), FRT (-0.2%), VNG (-2.6%), and ADG (-5.2%) dropped and as a sector had the most negative effect on the index.
* Some of the noteworthy gaining stocks in other sectors were utility company GAS (+2.3%), steel maker HPG (+0.98%), rubber producer GVR (+0.6%), and insurance company BVH (+1.3%).
