Market wrap: VN-Index advances 1.3% on surging large-cap stocks
The VN-Index advanced 1.3% (+15.3 pts) on Monday to close at 1,224.9. Large-cap stocks in the real estate and food & beverage sectors primarily lifted the market. In total, there were 298 gainers, 217 laggards, and 52 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume shot up to USD1.0bn.
* Vingroup stocks posted strong performances as VIC (+6.9%), VHM (+6.7%), and VRE (+6.9%) surged. BCM (+1.1%) and KBC (+1.6%) also gained.
* In food & beverage, conglomerate MSN (+4.1%) and milk producer VNM (+2.7%) climbed, as did fruit grower HAG (+1.96%). Beer producer SAB (-0.2%) declined.
* There were significant gains across other industries as GAS (+3.5%), electricity company POW (+4.4%), steel maker HPG (+2.1%), oil & gas company PLX (+2.7%), and retailer MWG (+1.1%) advanced.
* In banking, VCB (+0.7%), BID (+1.5%), CTG (+0.4%), and TCB (+1.0%) gained. VPB (-0.3%), MBB (-0.2%), STB (-0.3%), and SSB (-0.9%) decreased.
