Market wrap: VN-Index advances 0.9% 

On Wednesday, the VN-Index advanced 0.9% (+11.5 pts) to close the trading day at 1,284.1. The index was led by the banks sector. The large-cap VN30 group performed well with 27 gainers and 3 decliners. Throughout the index, there were 241 gainers, 174 laggards, and 70 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume jumped compared to the previous trading day to USD841.9mn.

* Six of the top-ten stocks lifting the index were banks VCB (+2.2%), BID (+2.95%), CTG (+3.0%), MBB (+2.1%), ACB (+1.2%), and VPB (+0.8%). No large-cap bank saw its share price decline.  

* The real estate sector had mixed performances as VIC (+0.4%), VHM (+0.9%), VRE (+0.8%), and PDR (+2.7%) gained while BCM (-0.7%), KDH (-0.1%), NVL (-0.8%), and VPI (-0.5%) fell.  

* Technology company FPT (+1.5%), steel maker HPG (+1.4%), retailers FRT (+6.8%) and MWG (+0.4%), and utility company GAS (+0.6%) were some of the other prominent gainers in the index.  

* Oil & gas company PLX (-1.3%), beer maker SAB (-1.0%), milk producer VNM (-0.4%), and airlines HVN (-0.7%) and VJC (-0.5%) were notable laggards in other sectors.
