Market wrap: VN-Index advances 0.9%, led by banks 

On Thursday, the VN-Index advanced 0.9% (+11.8 pts) to close the trading day at 1,228.3. The banks sector had a strong positive impact on the index, including six of the top-ten contributing stocks. Throughout the index, there were 278 gainers, 94 laggards, and 81 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume plunged compared to the previous trading day to USD479.9mn.  

* The banks mentioned above were CTG (+2.9%), VPB (+2.7%), TCB (+1.5%), MBB (+1.9%), BID (+0.8%), and ACB (+1.4%).  

* The consumer services sector saw MWG (+3.3%), HVN (+3.9%), FRT (+3.0%), and DGW (+1.1%) surge.  

* Basic materials also performed well as GVR (+1.3%), HPG (+1.0%), DCM (+2.2%), and DPM (+3.1%) gained. 

* Gainers to note from other sectors included utility company GAS (+0.9%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+1.4%), real estate company VRE (+1.7%), oil & gas company PLX (+1.2%), and logistics company VTP (+6.9%).
