Market wrap: Banks tumble, VN-Index falls 1.3%

On Thursday, the VN-Index could not maintain its positive momentum from the previous trading session, ultimately closing down by 1.3% as trading turnover on HOSE slumped to VND13.0tn (USD532.7mn). 

* The banking sector weighed heavily on the market, with VCB (-2.1%), BID (-2.1%), CTG (-2.7%) and TCB (-1.4%) among the day’s top contributing decliners. 

* GAS (-1.9%) decreased for the fifth straight session. In addition, petroleum distributor PLX (-5.1%) is down 8.3% so far this week. 

* Retailer MWG (-4.5%) has declined in four out of the last five trading days. 

* In the real estate sector, DIG (-6.8%) and DXG (-6.7%) both plummeted to the daily trading floor.
