Market wrap: Banks drop, VN-Index ends streak of five positive sessions

The VN-Index dropped seven-tenths of a percent on Thursday, ending a streak of five straight positive sessions as the poor performance of the banking sector weighed on the overall market.

* Bank tickers BID (-1.5%), TCB (-2.6%), VPB (-2.0%), CTG (-1.2%), MBB (-1.7%) and VIB (-3.2%) were among the day’s top contributing decliners. On the other hand, VCB (+3.1%) was an exception as it jumped to a 52-week high.

* GVR (-3.0%) decreased for the second day in a row.

* MWG (-2.7%) posted its first negative session since May 31.
