Market wrap: VN-Index surges 3.4%

The VN-Index plunged at the beginning of trading on Wednesday, but it rallied throughout the rest of the day to close up by 3.4% and end a two-day losing streak as trading turnover on HOSE jumped to USD579.9mn on bottom-fishing. 

* VIC (+6.0%) was the top contributor to the day’s gain as it advanced for the fourth straight trading day. Vingroup subsidiaries VHM (+3.5%) and VRE (+6.4%) also climbed. 

* Several banking tickers made strong gains, including BID (+6.9%), CTG (+6.0%), VPB (+5.8%), TCB (+6.8%), ACB (+6.8%) and MBB (+6.7%). Conversely, EIB (-6.9%) dropped to the trading floor for the sixth session in a row. 

* Other notable gainers included GAS (+4.9%) and HPG (+6.8%). 

* Food & beverage players VNM (-3.2%), SAB (-3.1%) and VHC (-3.9%) were down. 

* NVL (-6.9%) has now nosedived 51.2% since November 3.
