Market wrap: VN-Index losses pared at the end of trading

Following a crash in US equity markets of 4-5% on Tuesday, the VN-Index opened Wednesday’s morning session in the red and set an intraday low at 1,228.51 (-1.6%). However, the index started to recover in the afternoon and closed at 1,240.77 (-0.61%).

* In the large-cap VN30 index basket, 24 stocks dropped across all sectors, including consumer (SAB, VNM, MSN, MWG, PNJ), financials (CTG, TCB, BID, VCB) and oil and gas (GAS, PLX).

* However, some midcap stocks out-performed the market, including brokerage names (HCM, VCI, SSI), real-estate stocks (DXG, VCG) and industrials (VGC, BCG, SZC). As a result, the VN Midcap-Index reversed from an early loss to close with a 0.58% gain.
