Market wrap: VN-Index jumps 1.7%, but trading value sinks to 18-month low

After a tepid morning session, the VN-Index gained momentum on Thursday afternoon to close up by 1.7%. However, trading turnover on HOSE was just USD437mn — the lowest since December 2020.

* GAS (+5.0%) was the top contributor to the day’s gain as it bounced back following its 17% drop over the previous three days.

* Banks CTG (+7.0%), TCB (+3.3%), BID (+1.6%), VIB (+5.7%) and MBB (+2.6%) increased.

* In the consumer sector, MSN (+3.8%) and MWG (+3.9%) experienced strong gains. Meanwhile, SAB (-1.7%) ended a two-day winning streak.

* Chemical manufacturer DGC (+7.0%) surged to the trading ceiling, snapping a four-session losing streak.

* Vingroup tickers VIC (-1.1%), VHM (-2.5%) and VRE (-1.6%) dropped.
