Market wrap: VN-Index increases, but five-month winning streak ends
The VN-Index closed out the year of the buffalo by gaining six tenths of a percent on Friday as there was buying demand for several financial stocks following strong earnings results. For the week, the VN-Index advanced by four tenths of a percent, snapping a two-week losing streak. Nevertheless, the VN-Index fell 1.3% for the month of January, marking its first negative month since July 2021.
* Banks VPB (+3.4%), TCB (+1.7%), TPB (+4.3%), EIB (+6.1%) and MBB (+2.1%) were among the day’s top contributing gainers. Conversely, VCB (-2.2%) was the leading contributing laggard as it dropped for the third straight day.
* FPT (+4.2%) recorded its biggest single-day gain in more than nine months.
* Securities brokerages VND (+6.1%), SSI (+3.8%), HCM (+3.2%) and VCI (+1.6%) advanced.
* In the oil & gas sector, GAS (-2.5%), PLX (-1.6%) and PVD (-6.9%) dropped.
* DIG (-6.9%) plummeted to the daily trading floor for the second day in a row.
