Market wrap: VN-Index hits record high for third straight day

On Friday, the VN-Index cooled down from its big gains in the previous two sessions; however, it still closed up by four tenths of a percent to reach a new record high of 1,444.27 as investors continued to be encouraged by solid earnings results in Q3 2021 for select companies as well as the potential Government approval for an economic stimulus package. For the week, the VN-Index increased 4%. In addition, the VN-Index finished the month of October up 7.6%, marking its second largest monthly gain so far in 2021.

*  VHM (+5.6%) was the leading contributor to the day’s gain. Several other real estate players posted strong increases, including NVL (+1.4%), KDH (+3.0%) and DIG (+3.9%). Notably, KDH and DIG respectively jumped 12% and 19.5% for the week.

*  In the banking sector, BID (+4.1%), ACB (+3.6%) and SHB (+2.4%) advanced. On the other hand, VPB (-1.4%) and EIB (-4.7%) both ended three-day winning streaks.

*  GEX (+6.3%) surged, finishing the week up 13.8%.

*  On the negative side, HPG (-1.5%) fell for the first time in three sessions and was the top contributor among decliners, followed by SAB (-2.5%).
