Market wrap: VN-Index gains 1.5% to close above 1,200

The VN-Index started the week strong by climbing 1.5% on Monday to close above 1,200 for the first time since June 17 as many large cap stocks increased.

* NVL (+6.5%) recorded its first positive session since June 16 and was the top contributor to the day’s gain.

* Large caps HPG (+5.0%) and MSN (+3.2%) experienced strong gains.

* Most banks advanced, including CTG (+3.4%), VPB (+2.7%) and BID (+1.8%).

* VJC (+3.7%) jumped to a two-month high while fellow airline HVN (+6.9%) hit the daily trading ceiling.

* Conglomerate VIC (-1.1%) was the day’s top contributing laggard.

* Fertilizer manufacturers DPM (-6.9%) and DCM (-6.9%) tumbled to the daily trading floor.
