Market wrap: VN-Index ends two-day winning streak as trading turnover slumps

The VN-Index snapped a two-day winning streak on Thursday, closing down by seven tenths of a percent with trading turnover on HOSE sinking to USD737.7mn — well below the one-month average of USD1.2bn — as investors booked profits before the Tet Holiday.

*  VCB (-3.7%) fell for the second consecutive day and was the top contributing decliner. Fellow banks CTG (-2.0%), VPB (-1.2%) and TCB (0.9%) also retreated after experiencing strong gains in the previous two sessions. 

*  Among food & beverage manufacturers, MSN (-3.4%) has slumped 7.2% over the last two days. Conversely, VNM (+4.3%) and SAB (+3.5%) were the day’s top two contributing gainers.

*  Steelmaker HPG (-3.0%) dropped following a 6.8% gain over the previous two days.
