Market wrap: VN-Index closes at a new high in December

The VN-Index rose by 0.8% on Monday and closed at its highest level in December at 1,488.88.

* Banks were the biggest contributors to the index’s gain as EIB (+6.9%), SSB (+6.7%), VCB (+1.7%), CTG (+1.5%) and TPB (+3.8%) increased. However, STB (-0.4%), TCB (-0.1%) and LPB (-0.7%) under-performed their peers with modest declines.

* Real estate tickers traded mixed as VIC (+2.6%), KDH (+3.9%), NLG (+2.6%) and DIG (+7%) soared but VHM (-0.1%), BCM (-0.8%), SJS (-2.3%) and HPX (-1.5%) fell.

* Energy stocks had a good day with gains at POW (+7%), PLX (+2.1%), PVD (+2.6%) and PVT (+0.8%).

* Materials tickers dropped, including GVR (-1.2%), DPM (-4%), HPG (-0.3%) and DCM (-1.5%).
