Market wrap: Stocks plunge in return from long holiday weekend
The VN-Index had an uninspiring return from the long holiday weekend, closing down 1.3% on Wednesday with trading turnover on HOSE remaining low at USD629.4mn. Notably, investors sold off large-cap stocks, evidenced by the VN30 Index tumbling 2%.
* TCB (-4.5%) was the top contributor to the day’s loss. Fellow banks VCB (-1.2%), VPB (-2.4%), VIB (-6.0%), CTG (-2.7%) and MBB (-3.0%) also suffered heavy losses.
* Steelmaker HPG (-3.0%) snapped a four-session winning streak.
* Food & beverage players MSN (-2.5%) and VNM (-2.3%) dropped.
* On the positive side, energy tickers performed well, led by GAS (+1.9%), POW (+6.8%) and PLX (+1.3%).
