Market wrap: Stocks edge down as trading turnover on HOSE sinks

The VN-Index experienced an up-and-down session on Thursday and plunged in the final hour of trading to close down by two tenths of a percent. In addition, trading turnover on HOSE slumped to a five-week low of USD1.01bn with investors remaining cautious due to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. 

*  VCB (-2.4%) was the leading contributor to the day’s loss as it dropped for the third out of the past four days. Fellow banks TCB (-1.3%), MBB (-1.4%) and MSB (-3.0%) also declined. 

*  GEX (-4.0%) retreated after its 8.4% gain over the previous two sessions. 

*  MWG (-1.4%) slumped to a three-week low. 

*  Real estate tickers VIC (+1.1%), DIG (+4.4%), NLG (+4.0%), KBC (+2.4%) and PDR (+1.9%) climbed.

*  Other notable gainers included MSN (+1.4%), SAB (+1.6%) and PLX (+2.2%).
