Market wrap: Energy tickers lead VN-Index to new peak

The VN-Index climbed by a half of a percent on Friday, hitting a new all-time high of 1,456.51 as the energy sector posted strong gains. For the week, the index gained eight tenths of a percent. 

*  GAS (+4.5%) recovered from a two-day losing streak and was the leading contributor to the day’s gain. Petroleum distributor PLX (+2.3%) also snapped a two-day losing streak. In addition, fellow energy ticker POW (+2.8%) advanced. 

*  Fertilizer producers DPM (+6.9%) and DCM (+6.8%) soared to the daily trading ceiling. 

*  Most banks edged down, led by VCB (-0.9%), BID (-0.9%), MBB (-0.9%) and HDB (-1.3%). Meanwhile, SHB (+3.3%) recorded its ninth consecutive daily increase. 

*  PNJ (+3.8%) climbed to an all-time high. The jewelry retailer’s share price has jumped nearly 27% over the last two months.
