Market wrap: Banking stocks surge, VN-Index rebounds 2.8%

The VN-Index rebounded 2.8% on Wednesday as the market rallied after slumping to a nearly two-year low in the previous session. 

* Banks were strong across the board. BID (+6.8%), VCB (+3.2%), CTG (+6.8%), MBB (+6.8%), ACB (+6.9%), SSB (+6.3%) and VPB (+4.2%) were all among the day’s top 10 contributing gainers. 

* Securities brokerages VCI (+6.9%), SSI (+6.5%), HCM (+3.5%) and VND (+2.2%) also experienced robust gains. 

* Steelmaker HPG (+6.9%) recorded its biggest daily gain so far this year. 

* Vingroup subsidiaries VHM (+1.3%) and VRE (+2.3%) increased, but parent company VIC closed unchanged. 

* HAG (-7.0%) was the day’s top contributing decliner as it tumbled to the daily trading floor for the fourth time out in the last five trading days.
