Market wrap: Afternoon rally helps VN-Index end four-session losing streak

The VN-Index looked like it was heading toward its fifth straight negative session; however, it rallied on Tuesday afternoon to close up by seven-tenths of a percent despite many real estate stocks nosediving further.

* BID (+4.8%) was the day’s top contributing gainer. Fellow banks VCB (+1.1%), CTG (+2.1%), ACB (+3.1%) and STB (+6.1%) also climbed.

* In the energy sector, GAS (+1.3%) increased for the second day in the row while POW (+6.7%) jumped to the daily trading ceiling.

* MWG (+4.1%) bounced back after tumbling 13.4% over the previous two trading sessions.

* Real estate tickers continued to struggle. NVL (-7.0%) sank to the daily floor for the fourth straight session. Additionally, PDR (-6.9%), DIG (-6.8%) and DXG (-6.8%) all plummeted.

* Steelmakers HPG (-4.0%) and HSG (-7.0%) fell for their fourth and third consecutive trading sessions, respectively.
