Daily COVID-19 cases increased as almost all activities resumed. The number of new cases started to accelerate from the beginning of November as the result of reopening almost all economic activities across the country. The number of daily COVID-19 cases surged to around 14,000 in the first week of December, from an average of 4,100 in October. However, vaccination rollout accelerated rapidly. As of December 6, 128.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. 75.3% of the population was vaccinated with 56% of the population fully vaccinated (including people under 18). According to the MoH, as of the beginning of December, Vietnam has received over 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine and expects a large amount to arrive in December. The MoH also plans to rollout booster doses in December 2021. Rapid vaccination rollout should help to limit the number of ICU cases and the fatality rate, while restraining the negative impact on the economy.
