Daily COVID-19 cases surged after Tet, but patients on supplemental oxygen and deaths sharply declined. The number of new COVID-19 cases remained high in January (average of 15,800 in January vs average of 15,100 in December). In addition, new cases surged after the Tet Holiday to more than 20,000/day. Nevertheless, Vietnam’s high vaccination coverage has helped to reduce patients on supplemental oxygen while the the number of deaths has declined sharply. As of February 7, 75% of Vietnam’s population was fully vaccinated and 23.5% of the population had received third/booster doses.
